History

Chiropractic was founded by Dr. Daniel David Palmer in 1895. Dr. Palmer did not claim to be the first to use spinal adjusting to help people, however he is credited with developing the science and philosophy of Chiropractic.

A classic experiment occurred when Dr. Palmer had the opportunity to observe the deafness of a janitor. The deafness prevented him from hearing the ticking of a clock or the sound of wagon wheels on the cobble stone streets, although he could hear well enough to converse somewhat. The janitor, Harvey Lillard, had the hearing deficit since an accident 17 years prior. Palmer, after careful examination, adjusted Lillard and his hearing returned.

Since the advent of chiropractic millions of people have been helped through this method of health care.

Dr. Palmer founded the famous Palmer College of Chiropractic in Davenport, Iowa. His son Dr. B.J. Palmer is credited with the development of the profession. Dr. Sherwood is a graduate of the prestigious Palmer College.
